Emma Cole is a showperson and wants to bring something brilliant at Christmas to the people of Bridgwater. And so she’s set up a mini fairground, christmas market and ice rink in the middle of Blake Gardens and it’s now open, so get on down and check it out!
Sparkle
‘Bridgwater Sparkle’ has all the fun of the fair with rides and games, candy floss and hot dogs plus more substantial christmas fayre like a carvery and a bar with their speciality mulled wine and mulled cider available at £5 a shot. Or maybe you can try a Baileys winter warmer ‘Hot Chocolate’ ?
Ice Rink
The centrepiece is the ice rink with a surface made of ‘gleis’, a German fabric for safe skating. Cllr Brian Smedley and Cllr Kathy Pearce, Leader and Deputy Leader of Bridgwater Town Council visited the attraction today and gave it a thumbs up. Cllr Smedley said “I remember when we were asking people what they wanted as a leisure facility in Bridgwater and a popular choice was ice skating rink. Finally after all these years they’ve got one. This will be here now until January 1st and it’s a welcome first for Bridgwater, so I hope people support it and turn up. Entrance is free, there’s food and drink on sale and there’s plenty to do. Plus, if it doesn’t snow, there’s a snow machine on standby.”
Alpine Bar
The bar area is set up amidst a series of attractive alpine style log cabins, so people can shelter from any inclement weather or just imagine they’re up in the Swiss alps at some apres ski event having just glided down the Matterhorn.
Another feature of the ‘Bridgwater Sparkle’ is a stage area with a ready made sound system. Emma says she would welcome buskers to just turn up and play (although she has some lined up just in case).
The attraction is situated on the banks of the River Parret in Bridgwater’s Blake Gardens. Entrance is free and it’ll be here until January 1st brings in 2025.
