Friends of the Meads  “TREE DAY” is set for Saturday 30th November, 11am. The Meads is an area of low lying public open space which is rich in biodiversity.  It is a peaceful place to relax and appreciate the local environment and wildlife – all within easy walking distance of the town centre!

Westover Councillor and Town Environment Portfolio Holder Cllr Kathy Pearce, said “The importance of maintaining our existing trees and planting more trees is becoming ever more apparent.  They are essential for creating a healthier environment and removing the harmful emissions from the air. Therefore,

to celebrate National Tree Charter Day, the Friends of the Meads invite you to a Tree Day to:

  • Weed and maintain recent plantings of Hawthorn
  • tidy up the orchard area and
  • plant some tree seeds.

We all need trees

We will be meeting at the canal towpath entrance to the Meads (next to the storage container) – opposite the YMCA. As we only have a limited number of tools, please bring a trowel and spade if you are able. The ground will be damp, so please wear appropriate footwear and clothing. Come along to find out more about this little piece of the Levels on your doorstep!”
